Which celebrities am I allowed to like these days?
Is it OK to watch Allen, Spacey, or Stone?
My in-laws live with us, in a lower ground floor flat, and they have a dog named Whisky.
He’s really my father-in-laws dog and he’s the one who takes him out for a walk, as it helps keep him fit and gives him some focus for his day.
Recently, my father-in-law turned 80 and his joints are starting to play up, so I now take the dog out for a walk every evening. It’s half an hour of peace, as the dog isn’t very talkative, so I’ve started listening to audiobooks as a treat.
My latest is Woody Allen’s autobiography, however, the enjoyment I thought I’d get out of listening to the life of one of my cinematic heroes is tempered by the fact that every time I click to start the next chapter of the book, the question pops into my head:
“Are you supposed to be enjoying anything from Woody Allen these days?”
For those not family with the personal life of the director of Annie Hall, Purple Rose of Cairo and Hannah & Her Sisters:
- In 1992, Allen confessed to having an affair with his wife’s adopted daughter (his step-daughter). Allen has since married Soon-Yi and they have two adopted children of their own.
- Also in 1992, it was alleged that Allen had sexually abused his adopted daughter, although subsequently cases against him were dropped. The sexual abuse allegations raised their head again…
